Mr. Bahler was born Oct. 19, 1910 in Wabash, to Fred "Fritz" and Martha (Hausmann) Bahler. He married Irma Rudig in Wabash on May 26, 1935. She survives, as do four sons – Wallace of Mansfield, Ohio, Stanley of Cincinnati, Nelson of Stockton, Calif, and Alan Houston, Texas; a daughter Marilyn Pries of Kokomo, and a brother Walter Bahler of Tulsa, Okla. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. A daughter and two brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Bahler was a life member on long time Sunday School teacher at St Matthews United Church of Christ in Wabash. He also served as Sunday school superintendent. He was a past president of the consistory of the church. He was also a member of the Hanna Masonic Lodge 61 F&AM, York Rite Bodies, and a Knight of the York Cross of Honor. Mr. Bahler was also a trustee for the George Courtier Trust Fund of the Hanna Lodge. He was a member of the Wabash Kiwanis Club and a member of the Travelers Protective Association and was its secretary for 16 years, He served as president of the Wabash County Chapter (2866) of the American Association of Retired People. He was also assistant state director and state coordinator for AARP. He was a graduate of Wabash High School and attended Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, ILL. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St Matthew United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Carl Hanser, officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Main Street Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service. Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or the Wabash County Cancer Association. Date of death: July 14, 1995. Date of publication July 15, 1995.
