BAKER IS CALLED TO HER REWARD Anminda, daughter of Jesse and Lucinda Starr, was born in Ontario Canada, October 22, 1850. Her parents lived with the family until 1863, when they moved to Jones county, this state. She married to Mr. Joseph Baker on February 13, 1876, and took under her care her husband’s three children, George H., William C., and Laura A. The same year, they moved to Palo Alto county. The following year, on June 12, 1877, there was born a son, Frank Milton Baker. For 17 years after coming to this county, the family lived on a farm in Vernon township. It was during the days of the covered wagon when numerous migrants were passing on their way to the Dakotas. The strange travelers always found the Baker home one of fullest hospitality. Mrs. Baker would provide meals and lodging for all who came to them and the house was seldom without guests, most of them strangers, and these would come in at any hour of the day or night. Mrs. Baker loved the open prairie and the wild flowers that bloomed upon it. It was her joy to be close to nature. After 17 years on the farm in Vernon the family moved to Emmetsburg. Here Mr. Baker died May 28, 1902. After her husband's death, Mrs. Baker removed to Dickinson, North Dakota, to live with her son, who had become a lawyer and a member of the legislature. When the son was taken by death in 1909, Mrs. Baker was invited to return and live with her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Starr. For over 23 years, until her death, she made her home with them. She passed away on October 12, 1932. She leaves to mourn her death two sons and a daughter. The daughter is Mrs. C. S. Starr and two sons, George H. and William C. A brother E.K. Starr, resides at Baker, Oregon. Her death is also mourned by two grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Baker and a great grandchild, Mary Ida Baker. The funeral was held at the Congregational church Saturday afternoon, the pastor. Rev. I. W, Barker, officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Baker leaves a Christian heritage. As a young lady, she was converted to the Christian faith and united with the Baptist church later. After coming too Emmetsburg, she united with our Congregational church, in which she was a faithful member for over 30 years. It was always her joy to be present, at all services and when she could not be, because of illness, she would dress on Sunday mornings to attend church as conducted over the radio. She died willingly, desiring to return again to the spiritual home from which she came, to see her son and husband again and to receive the inheritance of the saints.
