Description	:	Rev. Arnold Hoferer Arnold A. Hoferer, son of Wm. P. and Ida Buddenhagen Hoferer, was born at Creighton, June 1, 1896. As an infant he was baptized and later confirmed by his grandfather, the Rev. August Buddenhagen, in Zion Lutheran Church at Creighton. He attended the local school and took his pre-seminary training at Sterling. He graduated from Wartburg Theological Seminary at Dubuque, Ia. in June 1921. Read More	Rev. Arnold Hoferer Arnold A. Hoferer, son of Wm. P. and Ida Buddenhagen Hoferer, was born at Creighton, June 1, 1896. As an infant he was baptized and later confirmed by his grandfather, the Rev. August Buddenhagen, in Zion Lutheran Church at Creighton. He attended the local school and took his pre-seminary training at Sterling. He graduated from Wartburg Theological Seminary at Dubuque, Ia. in June 1921. He married Irene Kaiser on Sept. 28, 1921 in Tinley Park, Ill., with his uncle, the Rev. Albert Buddenhagen, officiating. One son, Dean, was born to them. He was ordained by his uncle of Tinley Park in June of 1921 and served pastorates at Covington, Okla, Castilia, Ia., Cedar Rapids, Winside, Benkelman, Fairbury, Stutton and Clay Center. Later he completed 10 years with Zion Lutheran Church at Clay Center the day before his death. He was in the service during WWI and served as chaplain of the local American Legion Post. On March 15, 1962, he suffered a heart attack. After about a 2 month rest, he was able to resume most of his ministerial duties. In recent months he felt well except for occasional pains in his chest. On Sept. 1 he conducted services as usual and that evening suffered a more severe attack. He rallied quickly and Monday morning felt as well as usual and went about his work. Shortly after he complained of feeling ill and lay on the davenport. He either fell asleep or lost consciousness and died almost immediately on Sept. 2 at the age of 67. His parents and one brother, Gerhardt, preceded him in death. Surviving are his widow; one son, the Rev. Dean Hoferer of Des Moines, Ia.; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Berry of Omaha, Mrs. Irma Schlapkohl and Mrs. Gerda Wells of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center at 10 a.m. Sept. 5, with the Rev. Charles Miller of Bird City, Kan., officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Creighton.
