Description	:	Arnold Eldon Wenell was born November 15, 1923 on a farm near Albert City and went to be with Jesus on March 31, 1997 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Mn. He was diagnosed in 1970 with Polycythemia Vera, a rare blood disease, which ultimately resulted in his death at the age of 73. Arnold graduated from Albert City High School in 1941, served in the U.S. Navy, and upon his discharge attended Capital City College in Des Moines. While in college he became engaged to Mary Kathryn Lone and they were married on Feb. 8, 1947. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Arnold graduated from Albert City High School in 1941, served in the U.S. Navy, and upon his discharge attended Capital City College in Des Moines. While in college he became engaged to Mary Kathryn Lone and they were married on Feb. 8, 1947. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Arnold farmed southwest of Laurens for 29 years. He sold insurance part-time while farming, then started his own fulltime insurance agency in 1976 at which time they moved from the farm to their home in Laurens. He continued in the insurance business along with son Doug until the present. Arnold loved the Lord and was very involved in church activities over the years. He had a special place in his heart for Bible camp and served many years as camp counselor and later on the Twin Lakes Christian Center Board of Directors. He also taught Sunday school and served in various capacities on the church board. He was actively involved in Cursillo and enjoyed serving on Cursillo teams. Arnold also gave of his time for many youth and community activities. He was a 4-H leader for many years. Arnold was a charter member of the Laurens Kiwanis Club, led many Kiwanis activities, served as club president and as a District Lt. Governor. He was also a Laurens Co-op Elevator board member for many years and a German Mutual Insurance board member for 16 years.
