Read More	Arnold Spring residing about two and a half miles southwest of Brooks, committed suicide last Thursday morning at about 8:30 o’clock by cutting his own throat with a pruning knife. Mr. Spring has been a trifle off in his metal balance for some time, but not until recently did he show signs of violence, when it was thought best to have him brought before th commissioners of insanity. Sheriff Larson and Marshal Griffith were on their way to the home at the time the aged gentleman took his life and arrived on the scene but a few moments after the deed had been committed. Mr. Spring did not know they were after him, however. He had slipped away from the family and went just outside the house, cut his throat, closing the knife and replacing it in his pocket. Coroner Christie was at once summoned and empaneled a jury, whose verdict was in accordance with the above facts. Mr. Spring has resided in this county for something over twenty years. He is a native of Switzerland, and was 65 years old. A wife and five sons and one daughter survive him, and to them the unfortunate affair is a terrible shock. The funeral services were held last Saturday, Rev. Hass, the German minister and Rev. W. C. McClelland officiating. Adams County Free Press, November 15, 1905, page 1 INSANE MAN CUTS HIS THROAT Arnold Spring, aged about 60 years, committed suicide last Thursday morning at his home three or four miles east of Nodaway by cutting his throat with a pocket knife. He had just finished breakfast and going to the corner of the house did the rash act which resulted in his death. For a few years past, Mr. Spring had been subject to mental derangement at times, and, on the day of his untimely end, was to have been examined by the insanity board, though the fact was unknown to him. Coroner Christie was summoned and empaneled a jury consisting of John Stalder, A.F. Reichardt and Ed Schafroath. After an examination of the body by Dr. Worley a verdict of suicide was rendered. Mr. Spring is survived by a faithful wife, five sons, and a married daughter in Kansas. Interment was made in the McClelland Cemetery.
