Thomas Wilson officiating. Mr. Turner died Tuesday, May 16, 1995, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born March 1, 1924, in Chanute, the son of Arthur E. and Edna Underhill Turner. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had retired from Kansas University where he worked as a plumbing supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Grace Episcopal Church of Chanute. He married Betty Alice Steinman in 1946. They were later divorced. Survivors include four sons, Charles Edwin and Mark, both of Lawrence, David, Columbus, and Dan, Oswego; two daughters, Peg Duwnic, Parsons, and Susan Turner, Lawrence; four sisters, Leulla Taylor, Wichita, and Velma Grogan, Flossie Taylor, and Merry Chase, all of Chanute; two brothers, John, Wichita and Gerald, Thayer; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. The Johnson Mortuary in Chanute is in charge of arrangements.
