Arthur Herman Naab was born on Sunday, March 2, 1902 in Shumway, Effingham County, Illinois. Arthur was a son of Peter Justus Naab and Anna Katharina Naab nee Maier. He was the fourth oldest of twelve children. Arthur died on Friday, May 27, 1994 in Denison, Crawford County, Iowa at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of ninety-two years. Arthur was baptized on July 13, 1902 in Shumway, Effingham County, Illinois at Blue Point Lutheran Church. In 1921, Art came to Iowa to search for employment, while in the Charter Oak area he met Edna Maack. They were married on February 22, 1925 in Denison, Crawford County, Iowa and were blessed with the birth of two children. The couple moved to Charter Oak where they spent their lives together. He was confirmed on May 26, 1963 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Art was employed as a night watchman for the city of Charter Oak from 1951 until his retirement in 1970. In 1981, Edna died and Art continued to live in Charter Oak until 1987, when he entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents, Peter and Anna Naab; eight brothers and one granddaughter, Patricia Sue Naab. Survivors include: one son and one daughter; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Bohakel of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; Kathryn Kastner of Marine, Illinois and Hilda Jackson of Highland, Illinois. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 1994 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, with Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Angela Gebhardt provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "Lift High the Cross". Pallbearers were: Edgar Glockzien, Arlo Schoenfeld, Vernon Bielow, LeVerne Creese, Jim Watke and Earl Hiller. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements. We would like to thank all of our friends and relatives who expressed their sympathy and kindness at the time of our dad's death. Thank you for the flowers, cards, memorials, and food brought to the house and church. A very special thank you to the doctors and staff at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, and to the staff and Arvin Schmidt at Eventide who were so good to my dad. Thank you to Pastor Gebhardt and Vicar Kersten for their words of comfort, and to Angela Gebhardt for the music. We thank the Huebner Funeral Home for their consideration, and the pallbearers and St. John's Ladies Aid. The Family of Arthur Herman Naab.
