JAEKE Arthur Lewis Jaeke, was born on a homestead five miles southeast of Pawnee City, Nebraska, January 18, 1869, and died at the family home January 15, 1935, aged 65 years, 11 months and 28 days. Born of pioneer stock he was trained by the hardships of those early Nebraska days. As to heritage, he had the blood of the Puritans on his mother's side, German on his father's. He had the usual life of the farm boy with the schooling afforded by the district school and later the old Pawnee high school. The greater part of his life was devoted to farming. A short time was spent in Sheridan county, Kansas, but most of his life was lived a few miles of his birthplace. With the desire of most farm boys to try something different he attended school at the Western Normal in Lincoln to prepare for teaching and entered this profession for a while. But it was only when he took up carpentry that he found his real vocation. His farm home and many other homes remain as an eloquent testimonial of his ability in this line.He was married on January 23, 1895 to Miss Mary Flanagin. To this union one daughter was born. These with one grandson, one sister, and one half-brother, survive him. He was a member of the Christian church for over twenty years, occupying the offices of Sunday school Superintendent, elder, and trustee at various times. For the last year and a half he has been a semi-invalid but kept an active interest in all outside activities. It can be said of him, as of another, "He was sympathetic, loyal and devoted to family, friends, and country. His smiles, his happiness, his courage in adversity, his fundamental belief in the finer and nobler things of life," these attributes and qualities we shall always remember. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Pawnee City on Thursday afternoon, January 17, at 2:30 o'clock, and interment was had in the Pawnee City cemetery.
