Art was born Oct. 4, 1918 in Outlook, the son of Clinton and Aileen Price, a pioneer family who homesteaded in the Outlook area in 1903. Art attended Independence School and Sunnyside High School. Read More	Arthur Walter Price, 86, of Outlook passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Sunnyside Community Hospital. Art was born Oct. 4, 1918 in Outlook, the son of Clinton and Aileen Price, a pioneer family who homesteaded in the Outlook area in 1903. Art attended Independence School and Sunnyside High School. He took over operation of the family farm following the death of his father. He married Helen Martin on Nov. 1, 1941. Art and Helen began farming in 1943 on the Pipeline Road. In 1944, they moved to land located on the Price Road, which was named after his grandfather. Art retired from farming in 1985, but he and his wife remained on the farm until 2000, when they moved to Sunnyside. Art raised a variety of crops, but his favorite crop was sugar beets. He particularly looked forward to the fall harvest. Art was a member of the Washington Grape Grower's Association and the Welch Grape Growers Association, where he served as a committeeman. Art was also a member of Outlook Irrigation Board of Directors and the Farm Bureau. Art and Helen worked with neighbors and the Yakima County Sheriff's office to establish a citizen's patrol during the 1970s and to assist law enforcement reduce home burglaries in the Outlook area. Art, a CB enthusiast, was known throughout the Valley as "Tractor Boy." In December of 1994, Art and Helen were honored along with Joe and Rose Sheppard as co-Grand Marshals, for the Sunnyside Country Christmas Lighted Implement Parade. Art enjoyed farm life, but his family took priority as he always found time to support his kids in school and community activities. He was also a long-time supporter of the Outlook school. Art cherished time with his family and he was happiest when grandchildren or great-grandchildren were visiting. He loved to tease, but expected it in return. Hunting was a very important part of his life. He also loved to fish, but he loved to visit with other fishermen even more. If he didn't have a pole in his hand, you would find him talking to someone on the bank of a lake or in another boat on the water. Art was best known for his integrity. A handshake meant more to him than a written contract. During Art's recent illness, an extraordinary number of friends and community members contacted family to express their best wishes and to share their high regards for him. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; his three children, Sandy and husband, Fred Dasenbrock, of Tyler, Texas, Don and wife, Bonnie Price of Ellensburg and Ron and wife, Jan Price of Sunnyside. He is also survived by siblings, Don Price of Seattle, Delta and husband, Dick Bootsma of Sunnyside and Nancy Newenhof of Astoria, Ore.; and six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
