Sorensen, 93, of St. Paul, formerly of Greeley, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Father Antony Thekkekara will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. T.J. Finn and Son’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Arvid Anton was born June 1, 1922, in Platte County to Anton and Laurine (Andersen) Sorensen. He was raised on the family farm in Platte County and received his education at District #62 and Looking Glass High School District #40. As a young man, Arvid farmed for his mother after his father passed away in 1940. In 1947, he moved to Greeley where he farmed with his uncle. He also worked at the P.M.A. office in Greeley County where he sealed corn, and staked out terraces and dams. On May 20, 1950, Arvid was united in marriage to Margaret F. Harris at Greeley. The couple made their home in the Greeley area and for the past four years they resided in St. Paul. After his marriage to Margaret, they farmed near Greeley for several years. He then worked as a welder at Yilk’s, operated his own custom baling business and started Sorensen Construction in 1962. Arvid’s projects included numerous homes, buildings, grain bins, and remodeling projects throughout the area. He also was a DeKalb Seed dealer for 26 years. Arvid kept busy in his later years with volunteer projects. He was a FHA project inspector and enjoyed working on his own cabin and house. Arvid was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and served as a board member of Lake Ericson for nine years. He was instrumental in the construction of the Greeley Veteran’s Wall and was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy. Arvid enjoyed working on antique tractors and loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret of St. Paul; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Janet of Omaha and Doug and Jaime of Lincoln; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jeanette and Joe Walsh of Lincoln and Barb Irvine of Ravenna; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carroll of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Glenn of Lincoln; and one sister, Josephine Truxell of Pueblo, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Christopher Walsh; four brothers, Vernon, Irving, Allan and Dennis; and three sisters, Elva Stone, Amy Thorn and Marjorie Allen.
