OBITUARY THE CHARITON PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa November 28, 1935 Mrs. Wm. D. Simpson, 74, of Villisca, died Saturday, Nov. 9, at the home of her son, Roscoe D. Simpson, in Nodaway, Iowa. Mrs. Simpson had gone to Nodaway July 30 for a short visit and was stricken almost immediately with an illness which resulted in her death. The body was taken to Villisca where funeral services were held the following Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Villisca cemetery. For several years Mrs. Simpson and family lived in Chariton and Mr. Simpson conducted a hardware and implement establishment here. Arvilla Goltry was born November 25, 1860, near Russell, Iowa, one of a family of twelve children. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity and was married Sept. 16, 1884, to William D. Simpson of Adams county, who preceded her in death January 16, 1934. To this union were born three sons, two of whom died in infancy. She leaves besides her son, R.D. Simpson of Nodaway, five sisters and four brothers. They are Mrs. J.B. West, Belgrade, Nebr.; Mrs. Winifred Copeland, Omaha; Mrs. Jennie B. Fluke, Osceola, Iowa.; Mrs. Clara Dahlman, Des Moines; Mrs. Myrtle Pepper, Corning; Joe Goltry, Kenosha, Wisc; Dr. Chas. F. Goltry, John Goltry and Fred Goltry , all of Russell, Iowa. Three grandchildren, DeForrest, William and Elmer Simpson, also survive. One brother and one sister preceded her in death. With the exception of two years spent in California after her marriage, Mrs. Simpson lived her entire life in the state of Iowa, residing in the counties of Lucas, Adams, Taylor and Montgomery. She moved to Villisca in 1918 after ten years residence in Guss, where she became affiliated with the Methodist church. She was a member of the Methodist church at the time of her death. With the exception of the last three months spent in Nodaway, Mrs. Simpson had made her home in Villisca for the last seventeen years.
