Simpson, 69, of Villisca, which occured last Tuesday at his home following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Villisca church with the pastor, W. F. Clayburg, in charge. Villisca business houses and offices were closed while the funeral was in progress as a tribute to the man who had been a prominent figure in the business and civic life of Villisca for many years. Interment was made in the Villisca cemetery. In early childhood, Mr. Simpson moved with his parents from Henry County, Ill., to Adams County, Iowa, and he spent much of his adult life in Adams, Taylor and Montgomery counties. He was married to Arvilla Goltry Sept. 16, 1884. From 1899 to 1905 he was engaged in the implement business in Chariton, Iowa. He then purchased an interest in a general store at Mt. Etna, and in 1907 he disposed of that store and moved to Guss, Iowa, where he and his son formed a partnership in the operation of a general store, which they continued until 1917. In 1917 he moved to Villisca and took charge of an implement stock and when this stock became the property of the Villisca Co-Operative Association, Mr. Simpson was engaged as manager and continued in this capacity until his death. Mr. Simpson is survived by his widow; his son, R. D. Simpson of Nodaway; three grandsons; one brother and two sisters, who are Fred E. Simpson of Corning, Mrs. A. A. Fees, Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. R. B. Ferrel of Prescott. One brother, Albert P. Simpson, preceded him in death.
