Mrs. Holland had returned from the McCready Hospital the day before, and was sitting talking with neighbors when she was seized with the heart attack and died almost instantly. Born in Crisfield, she was the daughter of the late William and Burnetta Sterling Batts, and the widow of the late Elyard S. Holland member of the City Council and prominent seafood dealer. Mrs. Holland was a soft spoken, big hearted woman, a devoted wife and mother, who had done many good deeds for neighbors and friends during her long life. She had the capacity for being helpful and comforting in times of sickness and sorrow, and had gained the affection of many people because of her many fine traits of character. She had for many years been member and a staunch supporter of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, attending its services regularly when her health permitted, taking part in its activities, and showing unflagging Christian faith in her daily life. She had the deep esteem and regard of everyone who knew her. Funeral services were held in the Bradshaw Funeral Parlors last Sunday afternoon, with her pastor, Rev. A. T. McFarland, officiating. Interment was beside the body of her husband in the family lot in the Crisfield cemetery. Bearers were Percy Nelson, Norman Nelson, Herman Hickman, William Holland, Roland Lankford and Edward Holland. She is survived by two sons; Osborne Holland of Fernandina, Fla., and William B. Holland of Woodstock, N.Y., and one sister, Mrs. Benjamin F. Gibson of this city. The Crisfield Times, December 18, 1953 pg.1
