Holland, member of the City Council, and one of the best known seafood dealers in Crisfield, died suddenly at his home on Cove street early Friday morning of last week, at the age of 71 years. He had been in ill health for about two years, but the evening before his death he played dominoes with some friends at his home, and seemed to be in good spirits and in good physical shape. He was a son of the late George and Sarah Holland, prominent community residents, and practically all his life he had been engaged in some phase of the seafood business, here and in North Carolina. Years ago he was connected with the old firm of J. H. Riggin & Co., oyster packers and shippers of soft shell crabs from Crisfield and the Carolina's. Engaging in business for himself some years ago, he had built up a fine business in seafood. For years he specialized in diamond back terrapin, producing hundreds of dozens of them at his terrapin farm in the Jersey section. He also canned terrapin, finding ready markets for his products in many large cities. A member of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, Mr. Holland served on the official board there for years, and was superintendent of the Sunday School for a long time. He was a faithful and energetic worker in the church, and his advice and counsel were eagerly sought and followed regarding many church policies and activities. For nearly seven years he had been a member of the City Council of Crisfield, where his progressive ideas and fine ideals as a public servant were exceedingly valuable in the conduct of the city's affairs. A man of engaging personality, of high ethical standards, friendly and helpful, he was regarded as one of the outstanding citizens of the community, and his sudden death was a shock to his legion of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services were held at his home on Cove street Monday afternoon, with his pastor, Dr. Charles M. Elderdice conducting them. Interment was in the family lot in the Crisfield cemetery. Many of his relatives and friends attended the services, and many very lovely floral pieces were banked about his casket, tokens of the high regard and esteem in which he was held. Pallbearers were former Mayor William E. Ward, City Treasurer George H. Massey, Norman Nelson, Herman Hickman, and City Councilmen Charles M. Woolston and Elbert L. Quinn. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Mae Holland, and two sons, Osborne Holland, of Apalachicola, Fla., and William Holland, of Newark, N. J., one brother, William G.
