Kaslon, 57, of Scotia died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at home. Memorial services were held Jan. 10 at the Scotia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Christian Mattison of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup officiated. Mrs. Kaslon was born May 29, 1945, at St. Paul to Vurnm C. and Meta L. (Hermsmeyer) Keep. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter, Carrie Kaslon of Lincoln; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Stacy Kuszak of Ord, Curtis Kaslon and Jay Kaslon, both of Lincoln, and Dave and Diane Kaslon of Ord; and two sisters, Jacqueline Babka of Tonawanda, N.Y., and Shari Severance of Brighton, Colo. She was also survived by grandchildren, Derick and Deandra Kaslon of Ord, and Jayln Kaslon of Papillion; and beloved former husband and faithful friend, Carl Kaslon of Scotia. She spent her early years and education in the Cotesfield community, until the family moved to a farm outside of Scotia in 1960. Audrey graduated from the North Loup-Scotia High School in 1963. She continued her education and work career by attending nurses training, becoming a licensed cosmetologist, managing a bakery in Carl's Market and working as a physical therapy aide. Audrey's greatest childhood memories include riding horseback with best friends in the pasture hills east of Cotesfield. She led the high school band in many marching events as its drum major. After her marriage in 1966 to James Kuszak, they moved to Indiana, where their son, Stacy, was born. They were later divorced and she returned to Scotia and resumed her cosmetology career. Audrey later married Carl Kaslon in 1974 and became a good friend and mother influence to his three children. Carl and Audrey were blessed with their son, Curtis, in 1976. Audrey loved to do the things that made others happy, including baking and hosting family get-togethers, attending high school football games, taking trips with grandchildren, collecting and sharing bears with friends in need, spontaneous outings with Carl and friends and family. She was passionate about her love and pride for her family. Audrey's tremendous sense of humor helped her get through the minute-by-minute anguish of her mental illness, which eventually kept her housebound. She wanted the epithet of Vincent Van Gogh to be shared. It read: "If I had had a choice, I would NOT have chosen insanity." She was also passionate to share her desire for those who need professional help with mental disabilities to seek it quickly. She was always striving to improve her education and heal her situation. She would request to be remembered as a child sitting on the lap of God, seeking peace and assured of salvation. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Vern.
