Description	:	OBIT: August Haberman, one of Kittitas Valley's oldest pioneer farmers, died at his home in the Fairview District Monday night after an illness of but a few hours duration. Mr. Haberman had passed his 80th birthday and while it was known that he was failing in health, his death was entirely unexpected. Mr. Haberman was born in Austria in October 1854. Mr. Haberman had passed his 80th birthday and while it was known that he was failing in health, his death was entirely unexpected. Mr. Haberman was born in Austria in October 1854. He attended the schools of that country until he was 13 years of age when he left and went to work on his father's farm. He remained there for five years when he decided to emigrate to America. He landed in New York and came direct to Minnesota. After several years there and in Nebraska, he pushed further west to Kansas and took up a homestead. He farmed there for four years but storms and drought drove him westward. He chose the state of Washington where he worked in the wheat fields of the Palouse country and later in Seattle where he was employed as a carpenter. Farming was in his blood and he made a final move that brought him to the Kittitas Valley in 1883. He purchased one hundred and sixty acres of the farm upon which he died and had farmed it and additional acreage for 52 years. He was a successful farmer and was highly respected by all who knew him. Mr. Haberman was married in 1879 to Miss Anna Luisner, who survives him. In addition he is survived by ten children: Mrs. Othelia Salladay, Seattle; Rudolph, Rogersburg, Wash.; Frank, Nevada City, Calif.; Mrs. George Rollinger, William, Albert, John, George, and Martin of Ellensburg, and Nicholas, Grandview. There are 17 grandchildren surviving and two great grandchildren. He has been a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He is being buried this morning from St. Andrew's Church.
