Eugene Schipper officiated. August H. Monk of Monticello died Tuesday, June 20,1995 in the Senior Home after an extended illness. August H. Monk was born Oct. 4,1902 at Langworthy, the son of Henry and Maggie Siebels Monk. He received his education in the Langworthy area schools. He later chose farming as his life's work. August H. Monk and Johanne Harms were married Feb. 16,1926 at Langworthy. The couple farmed near Langworthy, Stoney Point and Castle Grove. In 1940, they moved to a farm near Anamosa and bought a farm there in 1944. They retired from farming in 1963 and in 1968, they moved to Monticello. In June of 1984, he moved to the Anamosa Care Center. He later moved to the Senior Home in Monticello. His wife, Johanne, preceded him in death July 25, 1992. Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Boddicker of Anamosa and Geraldine Kazebeer of Monticello; a son, August Jr. of Anamosa; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, John of Monticello and George of Hanford, Calif.; and three sisters, Sena Rickels, Augusta Siebels and Wilhelmina Soper, all of Monticello. In addition to his wife, preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and three brothers. Casket bearers were his granddaughters, Shari Boddicker, Kris Schiffer, Karen Bartels, Lisa Barber, Sue McNamara, Carol Merfeld, Robin Monk, and Judy Monk. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
