August Hitzemann, a resident of Akron vicinity for about sixty years, passed away quite suddenly at his home here shortly after 6 o 'clock Sunday evening, April 2, 1944, at the age of 79 years and 6 days. He had spent the afternoon with his friend, Chas. Willer. On returning home ho complained of feeling ill and before medical aid could be summoned he passed away. Mr. Hitzemann's health had been failing the past few years, being afflicted with diabetes; but his death was the result of a heart stroke. Henry William August Hitzemann, son of Henry and Dorthea Menke Hitzemann, was born March 27, 1865, at Hanover, Cook county, Illinois. In early youth he moved with his parents to Lowden, Cedar county, Iowa, and there was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 20 he came with his parents to Plymouth county, Iowa, and farmed in the vicinity of LeMars, a few years later moving to Akron vicinity. On March 24, 1895, August Hitzemann was united in marriage with Caroline Offenerde, with the Rev. Hoff, first pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, officiating. Their union was blessed with four sons and two daughters, all of whom are living except one son, Frederick, who passed away in infancy. In 1913 the family moved to a fai'm in Union county, S. D., west of Akron, and resided there until 1928, when Mr. and Mrs. Hitzemann retired from active farming and moved to Akron. Left to mourn his departure are "his devoted wife-; three sons, Henry and Carl, of Akron, and Adolph, of near Chatsworth, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Albert Von Hagel, of Akron, and Mrs. George Lammers Jr. of Red Elm, S. D.; and 16 grandchildren; also, one brother, Herman, of Sioux City, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Reemts, of Jacksonville, Fla. Three Brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Hitzemann was one of the early members Of Trinity Lutheran Church, of this city, and For many years served on the church board. Up to the time of his death, he was the only Active charter member of the congregation. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.
