Description	:	August Lenz was born to Jacob and Anna Katherina Lenz at Murg, Waldshut, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. His father and brothers, Jacob and Joseph emigrated to Montreal Canada. They sent much of the money they earned to Switzerland so that the rest of the family would be able to join them. They moved to Chicago briefly and then moved to Saskatchewan. August and his elder brothers worked and lived with other families and then shared their wages with their family. Read More	August Lenz was born to Jacob and Anna Katherina Lenz at Murg, Waldshut, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. His father and brothers, Jacob and Joseph emigrated to Montreal Canada. They sent much of the money they earned to Switzerland so that the rest of the family would be able to join them. They moved to Chicago briefly and then moved to Saskatchewan. August and his elder brothers worked and lived with other families and then shared their wages with their family. August left the farm in his "seventeenth year" (1910/11) and went out to the mountains to work on the railroad that was then being built from Edmonton to Victoria on the coast. The following spring, he moved to Cardston, Alberta, where a tract of land that had been under grazing lease for many years was being opened for homesteading. He associated himself to a community of Latter Day Saints, having not been in touch with the church since he left Chicago at the age of thirteen years. August served in the Swiss German Mission for the LDS Church from Jan 1913-Sept 1914, when War began in Germany. He had not taken a canadian passport with him, so the civil authorities would not allow him to leave Germany. He was finally able to buy a passport to be able to return to America Jan. 28, 1915, and finally arrived back in Raymond, Alberta,Canada on April 6th, 1915. He met Martha Schellenberger at that time and they were married May 19, 1915. August and Martha worked at Knight's ranch and had their first child, Lottie, there. Shortly after Lottie was born they moved to Hill Spring. On May 14th, 1918, Martha had her second child, Joseph Henry. She died 5 days later and Joseph Henry died 2 days after that. August was devastated and left. He married Della Casson Cahoon Mar 12, 1919. They lived in Kimball and then west of Beazer, Alberta. They bought some land 4 miles southwest of Hillspring and lived in a tent for about 6 months. One day a big wind came howling through and the tent blew down. All the dishes were broken and they decided it was time for a house since they had four girls by that time. They then bought a log house from Sydney B. Smith that was on the southwest corner of the town of Hill Spring. They moved it to the farm with 64 horses. Della and August had eleven children - Melva, Helen, Myrtle, Irma, Ruth, Ireta, Joyce, Ruby, Rachael, Marietta, and Hazel. August suffered from asthma and heart trouble for many years. He passed away Jul 6, 1960 in Cardston, Alberta, at the age of 66 1/2 years.
