After a very brief illness, which was not considered serious, rather unexpectedly she fell asleep in her Savior Thursday, September 27, at 12:30 p.m. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Aug. Ficken, beginning at the house of mourning at 10 a.m., Sunday, September 30. After words of comfort were read from the Scriptures and a prayer offered by the pastor a quartet sang "For Me to Live in Jesus." At Trinity church a double service, German and English were held. The words of comfort and for learning of the English sermon were based on Rev. 14:13, "And I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me, write, blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." The text of the German sermon was 1 John: 3-2, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like home, for we shall see him as he is." Trinity mixed choir sang a German song and "Abide With Me." The five sons and one grandson, Willie Eldredge, acted as pall bearers and four granddaughters, Opal Turner, Tillie Bliss, Marcylene Stevens and Evelyn Moede were the flower girls. The many floral gifts in a way showed how highly she was esteemed by her many friends. Mrs. Augusta Moede, nee Otto, was born in Grose Greeno, Germany, December 23, 1848. There she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 18 she was married to Wm. Moede, April 3, 1866 and immediately sailed to America. For two months they remained in Long Island, New York and then moved to Wisconsin, where they lived for four years. From Wisconsin they went to Sterling, Illinois. Here they stayed for ten years. From Illinois they came to Red Cloud, Nebraska in 1880. At this place they lived until the spring of 1903, when they moved to Blue Hill, where they passed the remainder of their lives. To this union were born thirteen children, two dying in infancy. The children who survive are Paul Moede, Long Island, New York; Mrs. Lizzie Eldredge, Harry Moede, John Moede, Mrs. Tillie Stevens, Mrs. Gusta Turner, all of Red Cloud; Mrs. Emma Bliss, Womer, Kansas; Mrs. Bertha Topham, Laramie, Wyoming; Max Moede, Chicago, Illinois; Fred Moede, Menlo, Kansas and Charlie, who lived with his mother at Blue Hill. Also thirty-one grand children mourn her death about eight years ago. Mrs. Moede reached the age of 79 years, 9 months and 4 days.
