In the 1860 census, this family was living in Milwaukee Ward 9, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Gotlieb was 33, Augusta was 25 and they had two children who carried the same names as their parents, Augusta 6, and Gotlieb 4. Augusta Gorker married Mathias Babler, a native of Switzerland, on April 22, 1867 in Saline County, Missouri. They had the following known children: Fritz/Fred Babler 1870- Eddie Babler 1871- Julia Bbler 1877- Ernest Babler 1879- Stella Babler 1888- In the 1880 census of Saline County, Missouri, Mathias Babler is listed as a merchant. Also in this census, Mathias' grandparents from Germany Fred and Ann Smogrow age 70 and 62 where living with the family, and also Gotlieb and Augusta Gorker, the parents of Augusta Babler. In the 1900 census, Matt and Augusta Babler were living in Slater, Saline County, Missouri, with their children Fritz, Julia, Ernest, and Stella. Matt and his 30-year-old son Friz' occupations are listed as gardeners, daughter Julia 23 is a clerk in a dry good store, and son Ernest 20 is a telegraph operator, while Stella 11 is still in school. _____________________ The Marshall Republican, March 1, 1912 MRS. AUGUSTA BABLER, wife of Mathias Babler, died of consumption at her home in Slater, Tuesday, February 20th, 1912, at the ago of 61 years. The funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church this (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock and the remains will be buried, at the city cemetery. The deceased was a native of Germany, but came to this country many years ago, and was among the early residents of Slater. She is survived by her husband, two sons and two daughters. The sons are Ernest, who lives in Kansas City, and Fritz, of Slater; the daughters are Mrs. Julia ___[sic], who lives in Kansas City, and Mrs. Stella Hosford, of this place. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family. -- Slater Rustler.
