Unfortunately the only microfilm record of that obituary that is on file in the Fairfield Public Library (and the LDS microfilm archives in Utah) is an image that was smeared during the microfilming process rendering that image virtually illegible. A number of those 1955 images were that way, not just this particular one, so there must have been a mechanical or operator problem at the time the original newspapers were scanned. Neither the Fairfield Library nor the Fairfield Ledger have retained their paper copies of issues of those newspapers of that era. A living descendant of this Mullenix family contacted this contributor in March 2016 and was able to provide family copies of three original published obituaries, so they are transcribed below. The clippings were not necessarily matched with the newspaper sources, so the sources are listed below, with text transcriptions that would apply to one of the newspaper sources: > Fairfield Ia. He was born Sept. 25, 1889, at Eldon, the son of Asher and Mary Elizabeth Alfred Mullenix. On Jan. 10, 1911, he was married to Pearl Donovan at Galesburg, Ill. Mullenix was a barber in Fairfield for 46 years until he retired last summer because of illness. The survivors include his wife; three sons, Asher B. of Eldon, and Glenn (sic. Glen) and Richard of Fairfield; one daughter, Mrs. Don Hall of Fairfield; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers, Frank of Paxton, Neb., and Edward of Los Angeles, Calif. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Behner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. * -- * GUS R. MULLENIX FAIRFIELD. - Gus R. Mullenix died at 7 a.m. today in his home at 300 South Second street after two years of failing health. He had been seriously ill several months. He was born September 25, 1889, in Eldon, the son of Asher and Mary Elizabeth Alfred Mullenix. He spent most of his life in Fairfield and had been a barber here for 46 years. He was a member of the First Methodist church. He was married January 10, 1911, in Galesburg, Ill., to Pearl Donovan, who survives. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Don Hall of Fairfield; three sons, Asher of Eldon and Glenn (sic. Glen) and Richard Mullenix of Fairfield; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He also leaves two brothers, Frank of Paxton, Neb., and Edward of Los Angeles. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Behner funeral home. The Rev. S. P. Williamson will be in charge. Mullenix, a barber in Fairfield for 46 years, passed away this morning about 7 a.m. at his home, 300 S. Second street. Mullenix had been in failing health for the past two years and seriously ill for the past several months. Last rites will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Gus R. Mullenix was born Sept. 25, 1889, at Eldon, Ia., the son of the late Asher and Mary Elizabeth Alfred Mullenix. He moved to this community when 10 years old and had made his home here since. A barber for 46 years, he owned and operated several shops in Fairfield, his last location in the New Chicago business district. He was united in marriage to Pearl Donovan on Jan. 10, 1911, at Galesburg, Ill. He was a member of the Methodist church. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Asher B. Mullenix, Jr., Eldon, Ia.; Glen Mullenix, Fairfield; Mrs. Don Hall, Fairfield, and Ray Richard at home. He is also survived by five grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers, Frank C. Mullenix, Paxton, Neb.; and Edward Mullenix, Los Angeles, Calif.
