Read More	Aurliene Marrian Crossland Clark was born in Coin, Iowa. She was the third child born to Eliga Meshack Crossland and Eldie Lenore (Lenora) Reed. Born November 4, 1922. There was a sister Oretta (Pat) and a brother R.C born previously... Eldie died when Aurliene was 18 months old. A story told thru the years is that Eliga didn't think he could take care for an infant and had asked relatives of his wife's that came in from California to take her back with them, they left on the train and as it was slowly moving out, Pat...Aurliene's sister ran to the train and had it stopped and took her baby sister, she was 12 years old and didn't want the family to be split up. The family moved to Des Moines, Iowa after selling their business. Eliga married Etta Taff. She had a young son the same age as Aurliene, his name was Harold Taff. As Aurliene grew up she thought Etta was her mother, and did not find out until her father died in 1937. She kept in touch and was close to her step brother Harold and had some contact with Etta in the later years. Aurliene attended Hoyt Junior High and East High in Des Moines. She met Hubert Clayton Clark when she was 15 and he was 20. They met thru Hubert's sister in law Marrian Clark, Hubert's brother John Arley's wife. She was a friend of Aurliene's sister Pat. Hubert and Aurliene sort of ran away to be married, they were married in Knoxville, Iowa... September 2, 1938. They lived in Des Moines for awhile then moved to Burlington, Iowa and for a time lived in a tent. They both worked for an ordiance plant across the Mississippi in Illinois during World War II. Aurliene also worked for a cookie company and am told that with her friend Lillie March Lorenz they were the Lucy and Ethel of the time. Returning to Des Moines they purchased a home at 3701 E. 39th St. in Des Moines' east side. Her 3 children were born when she lived at the 39th St address. They later moved to south Des Moines, building a new home to raise their 3 children in 1955. Aurliene worked for a time at Tone's Spice Company in Des Moines and then for Diamond Labortories in Des Moines, Iowa. Aurliene was active in PTA, she served as President of the Douglas School PTA. She was also active in Girl Scouts and was a leader. A member of East Douglas Ave Christian Church. Aurliene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She passed away June 10, 1984 at Des Moines General Hospital after an illness of Lou Gehrig's disease. At her side was her husband Hubert, daughter Sandra, son George ,sister in law Melva Schultz and friends Kay Reeser and Dorothy Weller. Aurliene is survived by her husband of 45 years Hubert of Des Moines, a daughter Sandra Kay Cornelius of Des Moines, two sons Hubert (Herb) Jr. of St. Louis and George of Des Moines. Also, Grandchildren: Lance, Lynn and Lisa Clark of St. Louis. Sandy Kay Cornelius of Des Moines. Todd, Michelle and Melinda Clark of Des Moines and Rebecca Ihnen of South Dakota. A sister Oretta (Pat) Kimberling of Bard, California, two brother's R.C. of Bard, Califorina and Harold Taff of Des Moines.
