Description	:	Barbara E. (Deering) Hume, 88, passed away peacefully Dec. 10, 2013, at Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan following a long illness. She was born May 7, 1925, in Harmony, the youngest of seven children, to Carroll and Bessie (Lacy) Deering. She received her education at schools in Harmony and Dexter. Barbara lived in Dexter for many years and worked as a stitcher at the Dexter Shoe Factory, as well as other shoe factories in the central Maine area, often working alongside other members of her family. (Deering) Hume, 88, passed away peacefully Dec. 10, 2013, at Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan following a long illness. She was born May 7, 1925, in Harmony, the youngest of seven children, to Carroll and Bessie (Lacy) Deering. She received her education at schools in Harmony and Dexter. Barbara lived in Dexter for many years and worked as a stitcher at the Dexter Shoe Factory, as well as other shoe factories in the central Maine area, often working alongside other members of her family. In 1984 she married John Ballantyne Hume of Manchester, where they lived "the good life" for 10 years, enjoying retirement with close friends on the east shore of Lake Cobbosseecontee. Barbara resided in Augusta for 18 years following John's death before moving to the Redington Memorial Home in Skowhegan, where she was able to be closer to her family. Barbara enjoyed making soups, baking anything chocolate and reading inspirational books and novels by Danielle Steel. She especially enjoyed morning conversation with her friends in the Augusta area over coffee and danish. Barbara's home was decorated with beautiful collectables, her favorite being the many glass and crystal figurine gifts from her sisters which she displayed throughout her home. Barbara leaves behind her sisters, Carolyn Reed, of Harmony, Polly Sawyer, of Palmyra, Ruth Post, of Cambridge, her nephew Larry Rowell and his wife, Donna, of Palmyra, stepdaughters Pamela Partridge, of North Anson, and Suzanne Hume, of Eatontown, N.J., and many other nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Carroll and Bessie (Lacy) Deering, her brothers Donald and Francis, her sister Dossie Rowell and her husband of 10 years, John Hume. There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. (Morning Sentinel 12/13/2013)
