Barbara was born January 18, 1931 in Thurman, IA to Hugh Lynn Greenwood and Elsie Elaine (Howard) Greenwood. On October 8, 1950, she was married to Donald Dean Fichter in Clarinda, IA. FICHTER, age 80 of Riverton, IA died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at her home following an extended illness. Barbara was born January 18, 1931 in Thurman, IA to Hugh Lynn Greenwood and Elsie Elaine (Howard) Greenwood. On October 8, 1950, she was married to Donald Dean Fichter in Clarinda, IA. Barbara was a member of the Riverton Church of Christ. Barb graduated from Thurman High School in 1948. Immediately following, Barb attended Peru State College where she received her degree in education. Following graduation, she taught at Strahn country school. By 1968, Barb began her career as a teaching aid at Farragut Community School. She remained there for the next 32 years until retirement in 2001. Following retirement, Barb went on to work at her daughter-in-law's bakery in Shenandoah as she loved to bake. If anyone wanted a sheet cake, she was always happy to oblige. An active member in the Church of Christ for nearly 20 years, Barb loved hosting holiday celebrations for her large family and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barb's love for and dedication to her family was evident as she portrayed that through various acts throughout her lifetime. Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Dean Fichter; and a brother, Howard Greenwood. She is survived by 8 sons, Darrell Fichter and wife Soo of Bellevue, NE, Darwin Fichter and wife Marcia of Farragut, IA, Donald Fichter and wife Vickie of Riverton, IA, Robert Fichter and wife Donna of Hamburg, IA, Brian Fichter of Riverton, Greg Fichter and wife Denise, Randy Fichter and wife Juanita and Gary Fichter and friend Rachel Newquist all of Shenandoah, IA; 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Eldred McCubbin, Anna Fichter and Kathleen Culbertson; 2 brothers, Lynn Greenwood and wife Rita and Gilbert Greenwood and wife Chae; sister-in-law, Cathy Greenwood; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
