Helvie, youngest of the family of seven children, passed gloriously home, On Jan. 29, 1920, in Kansas City, where he was a student in an auto school, having entered the New Year. Helvie, youngest of the family of seven children, passed gloriously home, On Jan. 29, 1920, in Kansas City, where he was a student in an auto school, having entered the New Year. Born in Halstead, Nov. 24, 1901, he had lived his short life of eighteen years in Kansas, the family home being now near Leoti, Kan. Clean minded, and with firm principles of right, he was converted this past fall and joined the M.E. church at Protection, Kan. He had been in the hospital eight days before his family arrived, in some unaccountable way word not being received, and nurses and doctor marveled at his patience and fortitude. Through all his intense suffering he was courageous, shielding his loved ones from pain, and assuring them he was all right. When told that he could not live, he assured his parents he was all right and willing to go. The last afternoon he said he felt like singing but could not, and his mother sang for him, and always the dear voice, often not able to speak the words, hummed triumphantly the bass. He asked to be turned on his side, and then ascended a wonderful prayer to God for guidance for himself and intercession for his loved one. All the long night when he was awake he would say, " I am so tried, I wish I might sleep," and those with him would reply "Close your eyes and we will sing and perhaps you can go to sleep." Obediently he would answer, "All right and again the dear voice would carry the strain until sleep came. He asked for "Nearer, My God to Thee," and was given strenghth to sing the words, after which he passed unto unconsciousness. We shall miss the dear form and voice, but we are glorying and rejoicing to the (next few sentences are unreadable) according to his glorious power unite all patience and long suffering with joyfulness.
