Description	:	Mrs. L.C. Helvie Hattie A. Perkins was born near Dixon, Ill., August 14, 1865, and came to Harvey county, Kansas in 1877 and resided in the northwest part of the county until about 17 years of age when she began teaching in the rural schools of the county in which calling she was very successful until the year of 1892, August 24, when she was united in marriage to L.C. Helvie Hattie A. Helvie of the same county. To this union seven children were born: Mrs. Ina Denny, of Coldwater, Kan., L.L. Helvie of De Beque, Colo., F. B. Helvie, of Sacramento, Calif., C. F. Helvie of Coquille, Ore., Josephine Jarnagin of Bucklin, Kan.; Merle Hardwick of McCracken, Kan,; and Beach P. Helvie , who passed away on January 29, 1920. Mrs. Helvie was converted to Christ at about the age of twenty-one, since which time she has been an earnest worker in the cause of her Lord; much of the time since 1907 being superintnant of Sunday schools. In the year 1905 the family moved from Harvey county, since which time they have lived in different parts of western Kansas and eastern Colorado. Of her immediate relatives, two sisters, Mrs. Lida Phillips, of Kansas City., and Anna Perkins of ElDorado, Kans., and one brother, Ford Perkins, survive; also many nephews and nieces and twelve grandchildren. Mrs. Helvie's strength began failing about 12 years ago, but she was able to keep on in her Sunday school work until about 2 years ago. She was superintendent of a small Sunday school in Caddoa, Colo,. when her strength failed her. She was brought back to Kansas where her sister, Dr. Perkins did all that could be done in her behalf but her time was drawing near and for nearly 2 years she had to have constant attention. For more than a year she and her husband have been living with the daughters, and at the home of Mrs. Denny, near Coldwater, Kan., she passed to her reward Sunday evening, August 29, 1937, at the age of 72 years, 13 days. So we came back to Newton the old home town, the home of her girlhood and early womanhood and under the ministry of her beloved pastor, of 19 years ago, Rev. Calvin Knight of Hutchinson, Kan., and aided by the pupils and friends of the olden, golden days we lovingly, reverently laid the tired body beside that of her boy and her mother, there to rest until that glad day when "the Lord himself shall descend, from Heaven with a great shout, with the voice of the arch angel and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shall ever be with the Lord."
