Ben was born August 21, 1921, in Petersville, Iowa the son of Martin Benedict and Sara (Reilly) O'Meara. Ben attended the one room O'Meara school house and Delmar public schools. Ben served in World War II as a bombardier in the US Army Air Corp and achieved the rank of captain. Ben was born August 21, 1921, in Petersville, Iowa the son of Martin Benedict and Sara (Reilly) O'Meara. Ben attended the one room O'Meara school house and Delmar public schools. Ben served in World War II as a bombardier in the US Army Air Corp and achieved the rank of captain. After the war, Ben attended St. Ambrose College and the University Of Iowa School Of Law. On August 14, 1955, Ben married Mary Hoese of Fulton, Illinois. Together they had eight children. Ben spent over 40 years with Farm Bureau Insurance Company and also served as a Clayton County magistrate for several years. After the death of his first wife, Ben married Karen Pelock of Prairie du Chien, WI, on November 27, 1982. Ben and Karen recently celebrated 26 years of marriage. Ben's hobbies included playing cards with his friends, telling stories about the war, and spending time at Four Oaks Golf and Country Club of which he was a charter member. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Sara and Martin Benedict; his first wife, Mary; his infant son, Benedict Arthur; and siblings, Patrick, Thomas, and Geneva. Survivors include his wife, Karen; his children, Matthew, Benedict (Sarah Roe), Barbara (Elizabeth Wendt), Terrence (Kim), Bridget (Donald) Millar, Molly (Paul) Schnell, Mary (Robert Springer); step-children Michael (Janet) Geisler, and Kim (Brett) Baker; 13 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; and his sister, Betty (Don) Henningsen.
