The Rev. Eugene Schipper officiated at the services. Bennie Tobiason of Monticello died Sunday, Feb. 18, 1996 at his home following a brief illness. Benhard Heinrich Tobiason was born May 4, 1913 in Wayne Township, Jones County, the son of Tobias R. and Anna M. Behrends Tobiason. He received his education in Wayne Township School No. 5. He later worked as a farmhand for Tobe Hinrichs. Benhard Tobiason and Berdena Schafer were married Dec. 27, 1939 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Wayne and Scotch Grove Townships. Bennie retired from active farming in 1973. Bennie was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He was baptized June 10, 1913 and he confirmed his faith on April 1,1928. He was also a church deacon and was the cemetery custodian for several years. He served on the German Mutual Insurance Board of Directors for 35 years. He was also an assessor for Scotch Grove and Wayne Township. Survivors include his wife, Berdena, three sons, Rev. Paul (Jeanette) Tobiason of Strum, Wis.; Glenn (Barbara) Tobiason and David (Colleen) Tobiason, both of Scotch Grove; seven grandchildren and two brothers, Learow (Meta) Tobiason of Monticello, Dennis (Trudy) Tobiason of Everett, Wash., and a sister-in-law, Elfrieda Tobiason, Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Milo. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
