Read More	Benjamin Eldred Wentzell 1940 Bridgewater Bulletin Benjamin Eldred Wentzell, a well-known and highly respected citizen of Riverport, entered peacefully into rest at his home on Monday morning, January 15th, at eleven o'clock. He spent his entire life at Riverport, where he was born 76 years ago, the son of the late Benjamin and Katherine (Conrad) Wentzell. During his earlier manhood he went to sea, but later conducted a meat business for 25 years, until he retired eight years ago. He was a life-long and faithful member of the Lutheran Church, acting as Deacon on the Church Council since he was 24 years of age, in all 52 years. He was known as a man of upright, Christian character, a faithful husband, a kind and loving father, and a loyal friend. His kind and genial personality won him a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who will receive the news of his death with a sense of deep sorrow. He leaves to mourn their loss besides his widow, five daughters, Ida (Mrs. Lawson Himmelman), of Bayport; Carrie (Mrs. Arthur B. Lohnes), of Rose Bay; Elsie (Mrs. Roseville Conrad), of Riverport; Sadie (Mrs. Aubrey Haughn), of Riverport; Winnie (Mrs. Ernest Himmelman), of LaHave; also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. One brother, Elisha, of Riverport, also survives. One brother, Titus, and one sister, Christiana, predeceased him; also three brothers who died in infancy. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, January 17th, from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, following a short service at the home, and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.N. Lossing ,who took as his text, the first verse of Psalm 27 - "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" The hymns sung were "O God, Our Help in Ages Past" and "Peace, Perfect Peace." The pall-bearers were Lawson and Ernest Himmelman, sons-in-law of the deceased, Kermit Himmelman and Quentin Haughn, grandsons. Arthur Lohnes, a son-in-law, and Wesley Corkum were honourary pall-bearers. Interment was in Shepherd's Hill Cemetery, Riverport. The entire commuity extends their sympathy to the bereaved family.
