He peacefully passed away on May 20, 2002, at Ridgevalley Senior's Home in Crooked Creek, Alberta. He reached the age of eighty-five years. Dad moved from Littlefield, Texas, at age two, with his parents, to Steinbach, Manitoba. In 1928, Dad, with his parents, moved to Swalwell, Alberta, and then in 1931, they moved to Crooked Creek, Alberta, where they made their home. Dad realized his lost condition at the age of twenty years. Upon his acceptance of Jesus Christ, he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Crooked Creek, Alberta, on December 6, 1937, by Min. J. F. Barkman. He loved the Lord and the Church and remained faithful to his vows to the end. Church attendance was very important to him, and he rarely missed a service until his illness did not allow it. He married me, Amanda Schartner, on March 1, 1942. We have made our home in Crooked Creek for the last sixty years, sharing life's joys and sorrows. To this union, eight children were born. Dad was determined to provide for his family. He was an ambitious man and had many talents. His first years were spent in lumber camps for the winters, farming and carpentry for the summers. Later he enjoyed his grain and gravel crushing and trucking businesses. He learned the saw-sharpening trade in C. O. camp, which he later took up for a retirement hobby. When he learned of his Parkinson's disease, he struggled to become willing for what God had in store for him, but he endured it patiently. Dad was a quiet, patient man, showing us by example rather than words how to follow Christ. Dad will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Amanda, and children: Dyann and Les Toews, Linden, Alberta; Fay and Harold Isaac, Crooked Creek, Alberta; Ruth and Brian Reimer, Steinbach, Manitoba; Estella and Orrin Toews, Silver Valley, Alberta; Marilyn and Jeff Dueck, Creston, British Columbia; Gerald and Bev Reimer, Valleyview, Alberta; Cheryl and Les Bignold, Crooked Creek, Alberta; and Calvin Reimer, Crooked Creek, Alberta; thirty-three grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruby and Don Matlock, Grande Prairie, Alberta, and Florence Purves, Stony Plain, Alberta. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters, and a grandson. Funeral services were held on May 25, 2002, at the Rosedale Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Crooked Creek, Alberta. Min. Trevor Penner, Min. Lee Wohlgemuth, and Min. Roy Toews officiated. Burial was in the Rosedale Cemetery, Crooked Creek, Alberta, with Min. Edward Boese in charge.
