Description	:	Obituary - Harlan County Journal, Alma, Nebraska - 1 Oct 1953: Benjamin Franklin Sloan was born October 28th, 1872, at Minonk, Illinois, and passed on, on September 19th 1953 at his home in Ragan, Nebraska, having reached the age of 80 years, 10 months and 21 days. At the age of 15 years he, with his parents and family, came to Nebraska, settling on a farm five and one-half miles south-east of Ragan, in Harlan County. At the age of 15 years he, with his parents and family, came to Nebraska, settling on a farm five and one-half miles south-east of Ragan, in Harlan County. In his early teens he united with Methodist church in the Freewater community. He was married to Fannie D Stevens on May 2, 1894. To this union three children were born. In 1944 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. In the same year on August 18th, his wife passed on. On November 1945 he was married to Carrie Stevens. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Carrie, two sons, and one daughter, Roger Sloan of Ragan, Kenneth Sloan of Wichita, Kansas, and Mrs Lulu Dawson of Ontario, California. Also ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, on sister, Mars Leona Armstrong of Jolly, Iowa, and one brother, Harrison H Sloan of Kansas City, Missouri. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him to the Great Beyond. With the exception of about ten years, the greater part of his married life was spent in and around Ragan. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock September 23rd at the Ragan Baptist church, with Rev. John Evans officiating. Rev. and Mrs Evans sang "Whispering Hope" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "Beyond The Sunset". Mrs Ellis Blackburn was pianist. Casket bearers were Louie Clausen, Phill Peterson, Eugene Walden, Ray Shumard, Clarence Graham and John Amen, Jr. Interment was in the Freewater cemetery.
