Last week he was up town, and today ate his dinner at the table. Beside his wife, Mr. Goodwin is survived by four sons: M.B. OBITUARY: HIAWATHA DAILY WORLD - THURSDAY, JULY 13, 1916 B.F. Goodwin was born in Walworth, Wisconsin, July 25, 1843, and died at his home in Hiawatha July 10, 1916, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 15 days. At the age of seven years he went to the state of New York with his mother, his father having gone to California during the gold excitement of 1849 and died there. Mr. Goodwin lived in New York until July 28, 1862, when he was enrolled in Company C, Eighth Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery, for three years, or during the war. He have to his country almost three years of faithful and efficient service as a true soldier, in camp, in line of march, and on the battlefield. At the close of the war, he was discharged from the United States service June 5, 1865. After this, he went to Illinois where on Feb. 19, 1868, he was united in marriage to Laura A. Raymond, and soon they turned their faces toward the setting sun and came with their strength and joy to help build the great west. They located in Brown County, where they have lived and made their home, enduring all the hardships and privations of a pioneer life. To them were born five children, all of whom are now enjoying their own homes and doing their part in sharing life's duties, its joys, and its sorrows. The sons are Martin B., Edward F., Herbert R., and Julius. The only daughter is Mrs. Fannie A. Arries, of Chicago, Ill. All the children, with the widow, survive him, together with 18 grandchildren. Mr. Goodwin was possessed of untiring energy and perseverance, and was very thoro in all his work. He was a lover of home and of home life, and one of his great concerns of life was that they, the family, should be the possessors of homes. Mr. Goodwin was somewhat reticent and retiring in his nature, appreciative, tenderhearted, a great lover of children, true to his obligations, and was a man among men. For 49 consecutive years he was a citizen of Brown County. The funeral was held from the home Wednesday afternoon. Rev. R.N. Buckner, of the Evangelical Church, officiated. Thus has left us one who will be sadly missed by neighbors, friends and loved ones. (Contributed)
