Description	:	Charles Benton, son of Peter and Rebecca Swisher, was born near Leitersburg, Washington county, Maryland, Dec 5th, 1866. His parents moved to this neighborhood in April, 1869, and here Benton spent all of his life. He never married. His occupation was that of farming. He was conscientiously honest and industrious. Read More	Charles Benton, son of Peter and Rebecca Swisher, was born near Leitersburg, Washington county, Maryland, Dec 5th, 1866. His parents moved to this neighborhood in April, 1869, and here Benton spent all of his life. He never married. His occupation was that of farming. He was conscientiously honest and industrious. His word was as good as his bond. On reaching maturity he purchased a farm near the old home place, which he carefully tilled with good results. About two years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke, but he would not give up, but patiently endured, without a murmur, all the pains and inconveniences subsequent to such a misfortune. About six months ago he went to stay with his brother and sister, Ernest and Pearl, who live on the old home place where all that careful nursing and medical aid was done to prolong his days. He passed away Nov 26th, at the age of 62 years, 11 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn their loss two brothers, Ernest and Clarence, and one sister, Pearl, all of this vicinity, besides numerous relatives and friends. The final service for the esteemed citizen was held at the North Grove church at 2 o'clock Saturday, Rev L.B. Carpenter of Villisca in charge and assisted by Rev Wayne Emery of the Nodaway Methodist church. The pallbearers for the services were Chas. P. Fisher, John Van Volkenburg, Chas.
