Description	:	BERTRAND — Berdina Agnes Evans, 87, of Bertrand died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Bertrand Nursing Home and Assisted Living. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with the Rev. Michael Wolff officiating. Burial will be at Arapahoe Cemetery. Read More	BERTRAND — Berdina Agnes Evans, 87, of Bertrand died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Bertrand Nursing Home and Assisted Living. Elwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. She was born Nov. 1, 1928, to Herman and Mary (Weber) Schievelbein on the family farm south of Elwood. She attended school at Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School south of Elwood and then attended Arapahoe High School. After her schooling, she married Melvin O. Evans and to this union two children were born, Carol and Larry. They purchased a farm south of Smithfield. She enjoyed living on the farm and helping her husband until he passed away in 1981. They enjoyed playing cards with neighbors. Berdina was in several ladies clubs in Elwood. Berdina loved going to the Elwood fair, which she always called the World Fair. Berdina loved listening to music and singing. You could catch her outside singing to all her cats, waiting for the grandkids to come and check cows. She lived on the farm until her health necessitated her move to Bertrand. She was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Elwood and the neighborhood card club. She loved gardening, cooking and seeing her grandchildren. She believed in always serving a full-course meal to her family and having banana bread and chocolate cake in the freezer in case someone stopped by. Berdina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Evans; sister, Marilyn Schievelbein; brothers, Heinrich in infancy and Norman Schievelbein; daughter, Carol Louthan; and son, Larry Evans. She is survived by her sister, Leona Fahnholz of North Platte; son-in-law, Dan Louthan of Smithfield; daughter-in-law, Vicki Evans of Lexington; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Travis Louthan, Cynch and Patti, Nathan and wife Maggie Evans, Gunner, KaeLeigh, Jyden, Josh and wife Kelsey Evans, Heidi Louthan, and Luke and wife Jessica Evans, Brooklyn, Katelyn and Brayden; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
