Three boys had been out hunting that afternoon and on their return to New Market in the evening, one of the party stumbled and fell and in so doing, his gun was accidently discharged. The McKinley boy was in line with the charge from the rifle and the ball struck him in the chest and penetrated his heart. Death was instantaneous. Dr Beauchamp, county coroner, was called by phone and told of the incident, and advised them that a trial would not be necessary. The funeral for the boy was held in New Market Sunday and the community showed its deep sympathy for the bereaved family by its full attendance. BEDFORD FREE PRESS, Bedford, Iowa, Oct 30, 1924
