George was preceded in death by his father, James Henry McKinley and his mother Eva Lawson McKinley, two brothers, Forrest Bernell McKinley and Dale F. McKinley, a half sister, Minnie Briggs, a half brother, Ivan Briggs, and a grandson, Michael James Perry. He worked in the coal mines in and around Carbon, Iowa until entering the service in 1943.
