Description	:	Bernice Delores Goeman was born on March 26, 1924 in a farmhouse east of Lennox, South Dakota. She attended Sherman School District 51 for eight years. Bernice married Daniel (Dan) Hoogestraat at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church parsonage on January 16, 1945. Following the wedding, Dan and Bernice began farming near Worthing, South Dakota, but Dan was drafted into World War II less than six months later. Bernice lived with Dan during portions of his military service at Camp Fannin, Texas and Fort Hancock, New Jersey. She attended Sherman School District 51 for eight years. Bernice married Daniel (Dan) Hoogestraat at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church parsonage on January 16, 1945. Following the wedding, Dan and Bernice began farming near Worthing, South Dakota, but Dan was drafted into World War II less than six months later. Bernice lived with Dan during portions of his military service at Camp Fannin, Texas and Fort Hancock, New Jersey. Dan returned home from the military on November 3, 1946, and Dan and Bernice’s first child, Donnis was born the next day in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dan and Bernice were married for over 56 years, until Dan passed away on October 1, 2001. During their marriage, they lived and farmed near Lennox, South Dakota, were active in their church, and enjoyed traveling together. Bernice taught Sunday School at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church for 26 years. They had four children: Donnis, Virgil, Cheryl and Sheila. Following Dan’s death, Bernice remained living on the farm for seven years. She died on May 25, 2015. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her parents, Elmer and Gertie (Dannen) Goeman; her sisters: Leona Schoffelman and Elnora Weeg; and her brother Wesley.
