Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. Reverend Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Bernice Magdalene Ohlrichs was born March 25, 1927 on the family farm west of Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of John and Katherine (Borchers) Ohlrichs. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Johnson Township, rural Merrill. She attended country school in Plymouth County and later high school in Le Mars where she graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1944. Following high school, she attained her teaching certificate and taught country school for five years. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Less on August 19, 1949 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill. The couple farmed for 40 years in Johnson Township, retired in 1989 and moved to Le Mars. Bob passed away October 31, 2014. Bernice had been an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Upon retirement and moving to Le Mars, Bernice and Bob joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Bernice was active in W.E.L.C.A, church circle, and the church quilting group. Bernice loved to quilt and donated many of them for fundraisers. She volunteered at Floyd Valley Hospital in the cafeteria, delivered Meals on Wheels, and she and Bob drove many dialysis patients for their appointments. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. She played in several cards clubs over the years. Bernice and Bob traveled extensively throughout the United States with their 5th wheel trailer, having been in nearly every state. They enjoyed spending several winters in the southern states, particularly southern Texas. She loved to visit friends and meet new ones along the way. Survivors include her four children: Ken (Karla) Less of Merrill, IA, Rick (Sandy) Less of Swisher, IA, Keith (Gwen) Less of Coralville, IA, and Lori (Doug) Pedrick of Slinger, WI; 9 grandchildren: Dena (Randy) Bridgford, Andrew (Mandy) Less, Mitchell (Liz) Less, Zach (Morgan) Less, Mark Less, Eric Less, Benjamin Pedrick, Katrina Pedrick, and Anna Pedrick; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine Ohlrichs; her husband, Bob; her son in infancy: Alan Less; 2 sisters and their husbands: Helen (Walt) Johnson and Dorothy (Leonard) Dirks; her brother and his wife: Don (Ruth) Ohlrichs; and her in-laws: Hildegard (John) Ehmke, Frieda (Roy T.)
