ALSO: Bernice Ashton, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ashton, was born June 20, 1910. She died March 25, 1933, aged 22 years 9 months and 5 days. Born at Geneva, she had spent her entire life here, passing through the grades of the public schools, and graduating with the class of 1928. Immediately upon graduating, she began teaching and has continued the past five years, teaching in District 12 the first two years and in District 35 the past three, being considered one of the best teachers of the county, and being greatly beloved by her pupils and patrons. In addition to her school advantages here in Geneva, she was pursuing a course in higher education at the Nebraska Wesleyan University, having spent the past three summers at that school, and planning to attend again this summer, working for a degree. November 23, 1919, she, with her parents and sister, Anabel, united with the Geneva Methodist Church. The immediate loved ones left to mourn her death are her parents: sister Annabel and husband, Albert Mason; and their little son Charles and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, her parting message to whom was “Meet me on the other side.” Funeral services were conducted at her late home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, March 28, by her pastor, Rev. W. H. Shoaf. Members of her high school graduating class acted as casket bearers. Burial was in the Geneva Cemetery. (Source: The Nebraska Signal, 30 March 1933, front page, no column listed.)
