(Bea) Samson, 63, 1337 Rynearson Road, died at 4:20 p.m., Saturday, November 26, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Samson was born February 19, 1914 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and lived most of her life in the Buchanan area. She was president of Samson Builders. She was a member of Buchanan Business and Professional Women's Club and was named Woman of the Year for 1977 by the Club. She was a member of Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce and was named Citizen of the Year for 1977 by the Chamber. She belonged to the American Association of Retired Persons, Southwestern Michigan Board of Realtors, Real Estate Alumni of Michigan and United Landlords. On August 17, 1932, in South Bend, she was married to Fred Earl Samson. He was born April 24, 1908 and died December 22, 1962. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Jane) Haupt of Huntington Woods, Michigan; two sons, Dr. Robert E. Samson (born June 30, 1935 and died April 3, 1985) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; David Lee Samson (born May 20, 1938 and died December 28, 1991) of Buchanan; nine grandchildren; her mother Mrs. Emma Rough of Buchanan; one brother, Lyman Lolmaugh of Jupiter, Florida; six sisters, Mrs. Mamie True of Mesa, Arizona; Mrs. Thelma Simon of Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. Gwen File of Nappanee, Indiana; Mrs. Virginia Barbour of Elkhart;, Mrs. Cleo Bishop of Buchanan and Mrs. Bonnie Rollins of Lake Worth, Florida. Rev. Keith Morrow, pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiated at funeral services which were conducted at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, at Swem Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home. Burial was at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Berniece Samson Memorial Scholarship fund administered by Buchanan Business and Professional Women's Club (B&PW) and sent c/o to Chamber of Commerce, 119 Main Street, Buchanan, Michigan 49107.
