Hanes was laid to rest in the Benkelman cemetery on Tuesday (21st) following funeral services at the Laughlin Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Hanes was 47 years of age and a well known resident of the Parks community. He passed away on Friday at a hospital in St. Francis where he had been under treatment for an illness of a year's duration. The funeral service was in charge of Rev. L. W. Blackledge. Mrs. Dorothy Woodworth was the soloist and Mrs. Dale Bauer was at the organ. Casket bearers were Howard Hesser, John McClain, Bly Howard, L. M. Stafford, L. K. Brinkerhoff and Art Hanshaw. Bert LeRoy Hanes was born to George M. and Mary Alice Hanes on July 24, 1908, in Laurel, Iowa, and departed his life on February 17, 1956, after living 47 years, six months and 24 days. He moved to Cheyenne County, Kansas, with his parents around 1920 and lived the remaining part of his life in the Parks community. On October 13, 1928, he married Pearle Daisy Nunn and to this union two children were born, Bert L. in 1929 and Kay in 1940. He was a kind and faithful husband and father. He was always happiest when with his family, his thoughts being for others rather than himself. He was liked by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother on April 16, 1954. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Pearle, his son and his family, Sp. 2nd Class and Mrs. Bert L. Hanes, Nancy and Rose Ann of Fort Benning at Columbus, Georgia; his daughter, Kay, of the home; his father, George Hanes of Parks; seven brothers, George, Alfred, Wayne, Henry, John, Carl and Elmer; four sisters, Annie, Susie, Margaret and Modesta and many other relatives and a host of friends.
