Mary Alice Matney, daughter of William and Elizabeth Matney, was born in Canton, Illinois October 7, 1887 and departed this life early Friday morning, April 16, 1954, at her home in Parks, Nebraska. Her age was 66 years, 6 months and 9 days. While a young lady she moved to Gilman, Iowa, where she was married to George M. Hanes on June 29, 1904. The Hanes family moved from Iowa to Cheyenne County, Kansas in 1920 and in 1930 moved to a farm north of Parks. The past eight years they have lived in Parks. Mrs. Hanes was a faithful wife, mother and friend, never forgetting to thank those who cared for her for any service given her. Many friends were made at the places where a home was established. Twelve children were born to this union. Three sons served in World War II. Mrs. Hanes was baptized into Christ September 6, 1953. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Annie Binkey of Benkelman, Mrs. Susie Burr of St. Francis, Kansas, Mrs. Bessie Kuhns of Ayre, Nebraska, Mrs. Alice Sherbondy of Trenton, eight sons, Bert and Alfred of Parks, Jim and Henry of Benkelman, Wayne M. of Advance, N. C., John A. of Trenton, Carl D. and Elmer E. of Haigler; grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two brothers, Tom Matney of Marshalltown, Iowa and Charles Matney of Gilman, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
