Description	:	Bertha Blevins was born March 12, 1874, in Lancaster County, Nebraska, to John and Lois (Rolston) Blevins. She spent her early years in Peru, Nebraska and Watson, Missouri. In 1878, when she was 4 years old, her father died. It is believed that he died of complications from a bout with the measles, which he had contacted while serving in the Civil War. In the fall of 1891, she was a student at the Peru... Read More	Bertha Blevins was born March 12, 1874, in Lancaster County, Nebraska, to John and Lois (Rolston) Blevins. She spent her early years in Peru, Nebraska and Watson, Missouri. In 1878, when she was 4 years old, her father died. It is believed that he died of complications from a bout with the measles, which he had contacted while serving in the Civil War. The family lived in Nebraska for about 7 years, near other family members, until her mother remarried and they moved to Glenwood, Iowa about 1885. In the fall of 1891, she was a student at the Peru State Normal School, living with her grandmother Mary Ann Rolston, in Peru, Nebraska. In 1892, she received a teaching degree. For the next 12 to 15 years, she taught school in Glenwood, Iowa; Watson and Tarkio, Missouri; and Allen and Woodbine in Iowa. In 1903, she married George Glover in Woodbine, Iowa. In 1910, they are living in Shenandoah, Iowa. They owned a bakery there from 1912 to 1915, and then lived in Madison Nebraska for a short time, where they co-owned the Palace Café with her brother Ned Blevins. They sold this café and then moved to Anthon Iowa, where they bought a restaurant in 1915, again with her brother Ned. They operated this for 3 years, and in 1918, while Ned and his family moved back to Nebraska, George and Bee moved to Milltown South Dakota, where they owned a store/post office. In 1923, she was president of the WCTU of South Dakota (the Women’s Christian Temperance Union) and after her husband died in 1927,she became an ordained minister in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, at a church conference in Meadow Grove, Nebraska. She ministered churches in Twin Falls, Idaho, (1933) Sutton, Nebraska (1935) New Goshen, Indiana (1940), Kent, Illinois, (1941) and Freeport, Illinois (1942). Bertha lived her last years in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She kept herself busy by doing volunteer work, and died on December 24, 1964, at the age of 90. She was returned to Woodbine to rest beside her husband George in the Woodbine Cemetery.
