Funeral services were held Monday, January 14 at 2 p.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at Dannebrog with the Rev. Walter Laughlin officiating. Mrs. Dale Johnson, soloist, sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Elmer Christensen. Funeral services were held Monday, January 14 at 2 p.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at Dannebrog with the Rev. Walter Laughlin officiating. Mrs. Dale Johnson, soloist, sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Elmer Christensen. Jacobsen Mortuary of Dannebrog was in charge of arrangements. Bertha Marie Stewart was born September 28, 1884 at Dannebrog, the daughter of Hans and Marie (Sundstrom) Nielsen. She received her education in rural school near Dannebrog and later operated a dress shop at Dannebrog for a period of time. On February 24, 1909, she was united in marriage to Chancey Stewart at Dannebrog. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Dannebrog area until 1941 when they retired and moved into Dannebrog.They moved to Parkside Nursing Home in Grand Island and Mr. Stewart died in October of 1970. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Royal Neighbors of America, and the American Legion Auxiliary all of Dannebrog. She passed from this life on Thursday, January 10th at the St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island at the age of 89 years. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Flynn of South Pasadena, California; three sons, Dale of Madison, Chancey Jr. and Wayne both of Dannebrog; three sisters, Mrs. Millie Frandsen of Gordon, Miss Mabel Nielsen of Sidney and Miss Agnes Nielsen of Grand Island; one brother, Albert Nielsen of Park Ridge, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Preceding in death were her husband; five brothers, Walter, Harry, Marinus, Ralph and Ray; two sisters Mrs. Sophia Moomey and Mrs. Lela Petersen; two grandsons, Dale and Eudell; and one granddaughter, Beverly.
