Burial will be in the East Side cemetery. As Bertha Minnie Kottman, she was born Nov. 15, 1872, in Cox Creek Township and lived in this community all her life. She was married to John F. Steen here on July 14, 1896. She attended the Evangelical Church and was a member of the Frauen Verein. She is survived by four daughters: Mrs. George Ehrhardt, of Oelwein; Mrs. E. F. Seifert, of Elkader, and Mrs. A. Nielsen and Mrs. Harold Livingston, both of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Louis Kottman, of Volga City, and Henry Kottman, of Monona; and eight grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death July 10, 1935. Dubuque Telegraph Herald Thursday 24 Dec 1936 Elkader, Ia. -- Funeral services were held at the home and the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Bertha Minnie Steen, 66, who died here Sunday evening after being ill a short time. Services were conducted by the Rev. Paul Bitterer, pastor of the Evangelical Church. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery. Mrs. Steen had been a resident of Clayton County all her life and was well-known. Her husband preceded her in death about a year ago.
