It is transcribed here as it appeared, with the hope that the reader will be able to fill in the context.] Bertha Olive, the second daughter George O. and Mary Hurst Kisling, was born near Osceola, St. ir county, Mo., April 5, 1878. She came with her parents to Van Buren county, Iowa, in the fall of 1881. The father died the following Spring, and the widowed mother with r children moved to Bonaparte, Ia., where Bertha grew to womanhood. she was converted at the age of 16 years, and united with the Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and an Epworth league worker for a number of years, But on account of ill health she had been unable to attend services much of late years. She graduated from the Bonaparte high school in 1896 and later taught for a number of years in the me school. She moved to Birmingham, Iowa, 1907, where she taught in the high hool for ten years. She was married to John A. Rail May 23, 1918. They moved immed- tely to a farm near Milton, Iowa. Two years later they moved to the present farm in Jefferson county. She had been a constant sufferer from asthma for over five years. everything possible was done for her relief but to no avail, and she passed way during a severe attack of the disease a little after midnight Dec. 1940. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, one son, Robert, who is in the Navy, one daughter, Mrs. Helen galls, at home, one sister, Mrs. yron Woodard of Berkshire, Mass., niece, one nephew, and a host of her relatives and friends. Her mother, who made her home with Bertha, passed away about 15 years go. Funeral services were held in the Birmingham M.E. church Thursday afternoon by Rev. F.M.
