Read More	Bess Heath Bradley, younger daughter of William G. and Eliza Heath Bradley, was born March 15, 1873 in Toulon, Ill., and passed away at her home in Nelson on Saturday, Dec. 17, 1949, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 2 days. In February, 1883, she came with her parents to Nebraska, where they settled on a farm five miles northeast of Nelson. Following the example of her parents she became a member of the Christian church in her early childhood. In 1891 the family moved to Nelson, where she has since made her home. Her father preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1905 - her mother on April 6, 1919. She was united in marriage at Nelson on Nov. 14, 1894 to Frank A. Scherzinger. To them two children - Ruth and Vic - were born. Few women have taken a more active and varied part in the life of their community than has Mrs. Scherzinger. Following her formal education in Blaine Center school, she taught a year in a rural school near Edgar, after which she served as deputy county clerk of this county from January 1892 to January 1896. Her marriage to Mr. Scherzinger began an active interest in their newspaper which lasted the 53 years, up to her last illness. She was an untiring worker for more than fifty years in the Presbyterian church (sic) and Sunday school to which she transferred her membership following her marriage. Many of these were spent as a class teacher and choir member. She served as superintendent of the Sunday school and was a deaconess in the church from March, 1923, until her death. A member of P.E.O. since 1891, she served many years as its president and also as the chaplain in a manner which elicited unusual praise from officials high in the Sisterhood. For many years she was a member of the Library Board and was one of a small handful of these ladies whose efforts finally resulted in the present City Library. Soon after the birth of Nelson's "Sunset Social" -- which has honored this community's elderly residents for each year since 1920 - Mrs. Scherzinger was made the group's permanent secretary - the yearly duties of which she performed faithfully until her health no longer permitted it. During both World Wars she gave liberally of her means and time to the necessary work of the Red Cross - of which she was a past county officer. From 1942 to 1945 she and her husband gave unsparingly in their efforts on the community newspaper - a fact which doubtless contributed to the serious illness which befell her on May 13, 1947. During the two and a half years since, Mrs. Scherzinger has been confined to her home. Her record is the pride of all who knew her. She leaves her husband, who lies seriously ill in their home; a daughter, Mrs. Lawson J. Wehrman of Hastings; a son, Vic B. of Nelson; two granddaughters, Leslie Wehrman of Omaha and Joan Wehrman, a student at Creighton University in Omaha; and one sister, Mrs. W.L. Minor of Beatrice. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 19, at 2:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian church (sic), with the Rev. R.L. Williams in charge. Piano service music was provided by Mrs. H.A. Brubaker. The pallbearers were: John Troudt, H.A. Brubaker, Ralph Rickard, John Petty, Lloyd Bargen and Ralph Bottenfield. Burial was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
