Description	:	Vic Scherzinger, owner and publisher of the Nelson Gazette, died at the Veterans Hospital at Lincoln Tuesday afternoon. He was 54. Mr. Scherzinger had been at the hospital for about three weeks and underwent surgery while there. A life-long resident of Nelson, he was a past commander of the Nelson American Legion post. He was also a member of the Nelson Presbyterian Church and of the Elks Lodge. While attending the University of Nebraska, he was a member of the football squad. Funeral services have been tentatively set for Monday at 2 p.m., at the Presbyterian Church in Nelson. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery (sic), Superior. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, April 4, 1963 ============= Services were held in the Presbyterian Church at Nelson Monday for Vic B. Scherzinger, editor and owner of the Nelson Gazette, who died in the Veterans Hospital at Lincoln Thursday, April 4. He had been at the hospital for several weeks undergoing surgery for a malignancy, while there. He was 54. The following obituary was read: Vic Bradley Scherzinger, son of Frank A. and Bess Scherzinger, was born May 28, 1908, at Nelson, and died April 4, 1963, at the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln. A graduate of the Nelson High School, Vic also attended Hastings College and the University of Nebraska where he was active in athletics. Following college he was employed by the Hastings Tribune and the Lincoln Journal in their graphic arts departments, and died commercial art work in Chicago for a short period. He returned to Nelson in the late 30's and became associated with his father in the newspaper business. He was united in marriage with Genevieve Worden of Superior on Oct. 13, 1940. He worked for a brief term as deputy county treasurer and then served in World War II from December, 1942, to November, 1945. On his return he was associated again in the newspaper with his father and then in 1955 became editor and published of the family paper, The Nelson Gazette. He was active in all phases of community affairs. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; his sister, Mrs. Ruth Wehrman of Hastings; two nieces, Mrs. Leslie Thompson of Omaha and Mrs. Clyde Nicholson of Anamosa, Iowa; and four grandnieces. Dr. Leonard DeMoor of Hastings College officated at the funeral services and interment was in Evergreen cemetery (sic), Superior. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, April 11, 1963
