(Joy) Avers, was born on the family farm in Nuckolls County, Nebraska, south of Edgar, Nebraska, on April 12, 1908, and died at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora, Nebraska, on Friday, February 23, 2001, at the age of 92 years. She attended country grade school and graduated from Edgar High School in 1925. May 15, 1930, Bessie married Charles H. Williams in Hastings. Mr. Williams worked as a mechanic for various companies, including Grosshans in Aurora, before opening his own repair shop in Aurora. Bessie loved to cook and worked for various cafes in Aurora, as well as the school system in Aurora. Even after retiring she continued to cook cookies and pies for people she knew. Charles passed away in December of 1981. Bessie continued to live in her own home until moving to Hamilton Manor in January 1999. She was active in the Presbyterian Church, which she joined in 1935. When her son joined the Navy, Bessie became a member of the Navy Mother's Club, attaining the office of Admiral. She also belonged to various clubs, enjoyed entertaining, as well as crocheting, donating many items to others. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, four sisters and three brothers. She was the last survivor on both her husband's side and her family, thus ending two families. Survivors include her son, Roger Williams of Hastings; two daughters, Bonnie Jensen of Grand Island and Marcine DeMaranville of Omaha; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian U.C.C. Church in Aurora with Rev. Monty Nelson officiating. Interment was in Aurora Cemetery.
